About Helen...

 

Helen is a compassionate, engaging and practical Psychologist whose approach includes a dash of humour and a large dose of common sense. She focuses on providing a collaborative, strengths-based approach within a safe, judgement free space which will support you through negotiating life’s challenges. She is skilled and experienced in helping people work through personal, relationship, career and mental health issues. She works with adults, couples, young people and with people from diverse backgrounds. Helen has a wealth of experience across many different situations, with a special interest in working with people who have expereinced trauma including childhood trauma, first responders, military and health personnel. Helen will help you to improve your understanding about yourself and others.

 

She will not just show you how to effectively manage your symptoms and daily functioning, she will also help you to identify and manage underlying patterns that may be holding you back, to achieve meaningful and long term change.

 

Helen draws from a broad range of evidenced based therapies and strategies including:

 

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT);

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR);

  • Schema Therapy, Image Rescripting;

  • Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT);

  • Neuro-Psychotherapy and Psycho-education;

  • Self-compassion, nonviolent communication (NVC) and ways to live more mindfully.

 

This integrated approach ensures therapy is individualised to each person’s needs in the context of trauma informed care.

 

Helen is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and before becoming a Registered Psychologist she worked as a Registered Nurse/Midwife which assists her understanding of medical conditions and  treatment and the link between physical and mental health.

I am available for face to face counselling sessions at Paddington or via telehealth counselling everywhere else.

My Fees

The current recommended fee for an APS Psychologist 50 - 60 minute consultation is $300.00. This is a recommendation only. 

My fees are $198.00 for each 50 minute session for fee paying clients.

 

You may wish to see your GP to determine if you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan. This would give you a Medicare rebate (from July1, 2024) of $96.65. The Medicare rebate will not cover the full cost of the session and there will be an out of pocket expense for you. 

Clients who are eligible for financially supported sessions through any organisation will need to provide this information at the time of their booking, otherwise, the full fee will be payable.

Health fund rebates may be available, but please discuss this directly with your health fund.
